Videos Vs. Prep Books: What’s the Best Way to Study?
Studying for your GED exam, HiSET test, or TASC test can be hard! Finding the time and energy is a challenge for most people. So what’s the best way to study to make the most out of your time? Should you go with traditional prep books or should you use videos? Here’s what you need to know about videos vs. prep books!
Videos are more portable than books.
One great thing about videos is that you can watch them anywhere that you have an Internet connection. If you’re going somewhere, you can have your study material right there with you. Wherever you travel, you’ll be able to study for your high school equivalency exam!
Prep books are also portable, but they may not be as easy to remember or carry with you. They won’t fit in your pocket the way a phone does! Most people always have their phones with them no matter where they go, making it very easy to access prep videos whenever they want.
Videos are good for visual learning.
Visual learning can help you understand new information more easily. Think about when you’re talking to a friend in person vs. over the phone. In person, you can look at facial expressions and other clues to gain more information about what they’re thinking and feeling. It is similar with study videos. You can get visual information that you wouldn’t get from simply reading a book.
Most prep books have visuals in them, too. They may have pictures and diagrams for science and math formulas. However, this isn’t always as engaging or entertaining as watching a video. Books don’t have sound or moving pictures, so it can be a bit more difficult to keep your brain focused on the task at hand.
Both methods allow you to pause and replay or re-read.
When you’re watching a study video, you can pause it at any point to take notes. If you ever get distracted or confused, you can go back and replay a section. You can do the same with a prep book. If you don’t understand something, you can go back and re-read the section, or you can always take a break and go back to it later.
This means that both of these methods have benefits over traditional classroom learning. In school, there’s a limit to how much you can ask the teacher to repeat something, but with prep books and videos, there’s no limit to how much you can replay or re-read. This can really help with learning.
Which one works best for YOUR needs while studying for the GED?
Videos or prep books can both help you study for your exam, so it’s really a personal choice. You may personally find that you get more distracted or bored reading a book. In that case, videos are the way to go! But if you don’t always have a phone connection or Internet connection, then prep books might make more sense for you.
